Process

The Re-tinning process is a special process carried out in various vessels.
  • The item is put in a degreasing tank for 12-24 hours, depending on the amount of grease and carbon build up.
  • Washed and dried
  • Reshaped to its original form; dents are hammered out, rivets tightened and the bottom flattened.
  • Inserted into pickling acid for approximately 12 hours for a deep clean.
  • Washed thoroughly and dried.
  • A masking coat is painted on the outside of the pan to stop any unwanted tin bonding onto the outside.
  • Flux is then applied, heated to a high temperature, then pure tin ingot is applied and hand wiped. Once the tinsmith is happy with the coating it is left to cool.
  • Finally the item is deep cleaned inside and out and can be used with no need for further washing.

At Sherwood Tinning, we believe our plating service is a unique service. Our in-house polishing facilities provide the full range of traditional finishes which can be performed on precious metals.

Here we are able to offer you the ability to have your silverware re-plated to restore it to its original condition.

You can be certain that your silverware will be correctly treated, restored and returned to you in pristine condition. We handle these pieces with precision and care to achieve the highest quality to exceed expectations.

Majesty - Sherwood Tinning

“We do the tinning for the kitchen, Sir”

IT DOESN’T look like much on the outside. And, to be perfectly honest, it doesn’t look like much on the inside. But what comes out of Sherwood Tinning is quite literally fit for a Queen... and her husband.
